Our products are made from reclaimed barnwood and we have pieces that are made of steel. Both of these materials may require different cleaning methods, but the process of cleaning industrial furniture doesn’t need to include certain cleaning brands or exhausting effort. Here’s what you can do to keep everything in pristine shape.
Outdoor Furniture
We offer a variety of carbon steel grills, fire pits, and stoves in our store. Each of these pieces is durable and while you shouldn’t have to clean them often, preventative measures can help make them last even longer.
Placement/Storage
One of the biggest tips to keep your steel pieces in pristine shape is to store them indoors when they are not in use. Moisture and sitting water are the biggest sources of wear and rust on steel.
Cleaning
If moisture can damage carbon steel, what options do you have for cleaning products? Luckily, warm water and mild dish soap are still the best versatile option. After you empty the ashes and debris, you can gently scrub the steel. Rinse off the soap and dry the carbon steel immediately after.
Indoor Furniture
Industrial furniture and decor are beautiful with a combination of hardwood and steel. The wood does need to be kept away from excessive heat, but those conditions indoors shouldn’t raise too much change to the steel components. If you have a humidifier in your home, we recommend that you keep the furniture a good distance from it.
Cleaning
The method of cleaning both the wood and steel of our products is fairly similar. Unless the surfaces of your furniture will be coming in contact with food or some kind of stain, you really won’t see much of a need for anything beyond selective dusting throughout the week. If you do need to clean a wooden or steel surface, please use mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Dry immediately after to avoid any rust or warping after cleaning your industrial furniture.
Polishing/Dusting
You’ll likely be dusting your furniture more than using soapy water. You can simply use you’re preferred brand of soft cotton cloths or dusters when you decide to dust everything down. While most of our wood products are finished or varnished, we do offer unfinished wood as well. If you’d like to polish the wood once or twice a year, we’d recommend “All in 1” or “Guardsman Polish.” These specific products don’t contain any silicone that can damage the finish after repeated use. You’ll notice that many of the products that contain silicone will be packaged in a spray or aerosol can. Our advice is to avoid those kinds of polish.
Industrial-style furniture is gorgeous with its dark and earthy tones. Whether this is the theme of your entire home, or you have pieces selectively placed throughout, you can take all of these tips to keep it in great condition. The quality will show for years to come.
